Sometimes things happen so unexpectedly that you don’t even know how to handle it, then that situation just keeps playing over and over in your head trying to figure out how to never let the same thing happen again, this is called trauma and can be unavoidable at times. How many of you have ever broken a bone? One second you’re enjoying life doing whatever you’re doing and the next second you’re in excruciating pain and need to get to the nearest hospital. But it’s the mental side that lasts so long. It’s easy to overcome physical pain and heal from it, but your brain is always trying to figure out why it happened to you, and that part is the true pain that never leaves.
Most accidents are no one’s fault, they just happen. If you’re trying dangerous stuff or being stupid then sometimes you deserve to get hurt, but if you’re just doing normal stuff that day then maybe it was inevitable. The biggest thing to remember is you must move forward, you can’t dwell on the past. Learn from your mistakes and try to prevent a repetitive incident but otherwise push your fears aside and continue on the way it used to be.
Right now I am personally struggling mentally to overcome many emotions created by years of multiple surgeries as I work hard to get back to my usual self. I want to be normal and I encourage my brain to allow me to be that way, but when the time comes for reality that brain likes to argue. It’s important to be strong and just keep pushing forward, keep your friends and loved ones close by for encouragement and don’t associate with the negative people. Go outside and do whatever makes you happy.
In the world right now (with COVID-19) it’s hard for anyone to feel normal, people are being held down and told what they are allowed and not allowed to do. I just wanted to go to the local skate parks, see a bunch of great friends, and go fast! But none of that has been allowed for the past 2 months. For all those dealing with Mental Health issues this type of incident makes you feel like your freedom has been taken away from you and suddenly you are trapped. But it will change, it will get better again, we ALL will recover from this, and one day (hopefully sooner than later) we can feel normal again.
Remember, your life is what YOU make it;
Stay strong, Stay positive, Be careful out there,
And Love every day that you’re alive…
I like to make custom painted Grip Tape Art on my skateboards, I like having bright colors to make it better to see my board and easier to find it in large crowds. Plus it’s fun!
This was quick and simple, I used rasta colors because they are nice and bright and it will excite me when I’m out skating. I called this one the Rasta Rooster because of the tail feathers, don’t mess with the rooster haha…

This was a replica of the Jamaican Flag that I did for Kaelen (aka Big Rip Kaelen Faux), but I used Red on the sides instead of black so it popped more visually, plus the Rasta Colors fit with anything Jamaican. It turned out great!
Episode 1 of “Create It and Skate it with Hippie Mike”, starring Big Rip Kaelen Faux, AJ Zabell and Hippie Mike. Watch the boys create and skate a wooden Wallie Bank Grind Ledge and have fun together as they test it out at a secret spot.

My friend Darren Anderson and I had been talking for years about filming something cool in the Scrapyard at Amix where he worked as a Foreman but we never actually got around to it. One weekend, probably around 2010/2011 we decided it was time, so I packed a launchramp and some plywood in the truck and we headed down there with absolutely no plan on what I was going to skate. We wandered around the yard waiting for something exciting to pop out at us, and all of a sudden Darren mentioned there happened to be a train car in the yard which had just delivered a large guillotine a couple days earlier and would be leaving again right after the weekend. As soon as I saw it I knew what to do, Other than the ground being completely covered in dirt and shards of metal, this was as good as it was gonna get. Darren grabbed the Liebherr and we went to pick out a good car with a big hood. He held it in mid-air as I tested it out and we were ready to go. The plan was to do a trick onto the hood and ride off into the dirt while he floated the car for me, then once I ride away he would smash the car with the claw. With all the rusty metal shards to fall on, and the fact that I had to ride away on dirt, I chose to keep it simple and just pop an ollie. We only got 1 chance to make it happen and luckily it all worked out. Being that the clip was filmed on my brand new HD camera, when they first started coming out, I didn’t have the proper equipment to edit it at the time and the clip just got buried in a pile of other stuff. When we were working on the Authentic Board Supply Video I remembered I had it and we threw it in there for the final trick of my part.
This was a once in a lifetime opportunity that I’ll always remember, big thanks to Darren Anderson for being awesome and making it happen, and to Cisco Gooding for filming in a cloud of dust!
8 years after filming this funny incident with my hair getting caught in a thorn bush I finally submitted the clip to AFV in 2012 and received a call back the next day saying they wanted to use it on the show. Have a watch as Tom Bergeron tells it like it is.
The same clip was used again in an audience member participation game in 2018/2019 with Alfonso Ribeiro as the host which was also hilarious
